The Dallas Cowboys simply haven't gotten the Trevon Diggs they wanted this season.
Really, they haven't gotten much of any Diggs.
He's been out lately with an injury he sustained away from the team facility.
Diggs has three years left on his contract, but the money actually works out that it'd be pretty simple to release him if the Cowboys are tired of this.
"It has been an up-and-down year for Diggs in Dallas, complete with an injury suffered at home," ESPN's Dan Graziano wrote on Friday. "The Cowboys drafted cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. In April, and while Diggs has three years and $57 million left on his contract, none of that money is guaranteed. The Cowboys would incur just $5.88 million in dead money if they released him."

That $5.88 million is chump change for Jerry Jones. If the Cowboys feel like Diggs has outstayed his welcome, or if they just don't think he'll be worth that money left on his contract due to injury and decline in play, a release is a real option.
"Diggs has been working his way back from injury and still has a chance to show enough over the rest of the season to convince Dallas to keep him," Graziano writes. "But at this point, it's no sure thing that they do. Diggs had 11 interceptions back in 2021, but he has only six over the past four seasons combined and last played 17 games in 2022."
Dallas is 6-6-1 after a Thursday night loss to the Lions. If the Cowboys miss the playoffs, which is more likely than not at this point, there could be some shake ups.
A Diggs cut would be one of the simplest moves to make just to send a message. It wouldn't cost much.
Diggs could still go elsewhere and be effective, and maybe Dallas decides to keep him around. But for now, this could be heading toward a bummer of an ending.
