The year of Shedeur Sanders? Yeah, pretty much, at least according to Google.
The massive search engine released its "Year in Search" data this week, and it includes a section on figures in sports. The No. 1 trending person in all of sports in 2025 is Sanders.
The top-five looked like this:
- Shedeur Sanders
- Terrence Crawford
- Cooper Flagg
- Cam Skattebo
- Micah Parsons
Sanders may have topped the list even without his precipitous NFL Draft free fall, but that certainly sealed the deal.

The son of Deion Sanders was a talented quarterback playing for his father, first at Jackson State and then for the Colorado Buffaloes.
Many draft analysts expected Sanders to be a first-round pick. He was even in the running for No. 1 overall for a little while before Cam Ward pulled away in that battle.
But then when the draft came, Sanders wasn't chosen on day one in the first round. He wasn't chosen on day two in the second or third round.
Sanders didn't get taken until pick No. 144, in the fifth round, by a Cleveland Browns team that had already drafted a different QB 50 picks earlier (Dillon Gabriel at No. 94).
To begin the summer, Sanders was No. 4 on the depth chart. He worked himself up slowly but surely, and he has now made his first couple NFL starts and may start the rest of the season.
Sanders has a lot of haters, and a lot of believers, and that has contributed to his overall trending nature as a bit of a divisive figure.
His NFL future isn't guaranteed, which likely will lead to more trending time for Sanders as his prospects are debated going forward.
But it's hard to see him having quite a year like 2025 next year. And that's probably just fine with Shedeur.
