Trade Myles Garrett? Media calling for Browns to deal star image

Browns superstar Myles Garrett is on the cusp of breaking the single season sack record, and earning a second NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. In the midst of another miserable season, should Cleveland trade him?

The Ringer's Sheil Kapadia passionately argued:

My one move for the Browns this offseason is to trade Myles Garrett. Can you get more than what Micah Parsons got? This roster sucks. (Via Yahoo! Sports)

On "The Ringer NFL Show" podcast Kapadia thinks the organization needs to do right by Myles:

"We are past the point of 'maybe they can turn it around next year.' The Browns are at ground zero. Keeping Myles Garrett on a 4-win team in 2026 is like giving a guy a gold watch while he’s still trying to run a marathon. Let him go win a ring while he’s still the best defensive player on the planet."

Garrett turns 30-years old on December 29th. At the end of a career best season, could dealing the future hall of famer be better for the franchise than keeping him? Kapadia thinks so:

"His value will never be higher than it is right now. You have teams that think they are one piece away. If you’re Andrew Berry, you have to realize that three first-round picks do more for the Shedeur Sanders era than one 30-year-old Myles Garrett does."

It may seem like a no-brainer for Cleveland to try and grab as many draft picks as possible for Garrett. However, the club is already in terrible future salary cap shape due to the massive Deshaun Watson contract, and future dead cap money.

Here's what trading Garrett would mean to the Browns salary cap situation:

Trading Myles Garrett Salary Cap Impact
Trade Timing2026 Dead Cap Hit2027 Dead Cap Hit
Pre-June 1st Trade$41.1-million$0
Post-June 1st Trade$15.5-million$25.6-million

A possible regime change for the Browns leaves any and all possibilities on the table for what is shaping up to be a fascinating offseason in Cleveland.
