Mike McCarthy is a polarizing name whenever it arises amongst NFL head coaching vacancy conversations. What can't be argued is his 174-career wins, and Super Bowl ring. 

What if the Browns were able to hire McCarthy and pair him with current defensive coordinator, and fellow Super Bowl winner, Jim Schwartz?

The one area on the team that's thrived over the past two seasons has been Cleveland's defense. Under Schwartz, Myles Garrett is on the cusp of his second Defensive Player of the Year award, while linebacker Carson Schwesinger is the odds on favorite to win Rookie DOPY.

Longtime Browns ESPN Cleveland analyst Tony Grossi is a fan of this potential duo.

If you're GM Andrew Berry and owner Jimmy Haslam, keeping that defense intact with Schwartz should be a top priority. If they don't want to make Schwartz the new head coach, then pairing him with an offensive veteran mind like McCarthy could be the "dream team" situation.

NFL insider Adam Schefter agrees with the need to keep continuity in the defense, while upgrading the offense.

McCarthy's embracing of analytics should also endear him to Berry.

When securing the Dallas Cowboys job in 2020, part of his sales pitch was that he modernized his offensive gameplan. The Browns have the largest analytics department in the NFL.

It will be interesting to see if Cleveland's head coach searching committee explores McCarthy as an option.
