The spotlight finds rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders once again, this time for his first career NFL start for the Cleveland Browns in Week 12 against the Las Vegas Raiders. As fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel remains sidelined in concussion protocol, the fifth-round draft pick has been put in the primary role for the first time.

Sanders' first taste of regular-season action came in relief of Gabriel during the Week 11 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, an outing he was quick to acknowledge was far from his best. Taking over for the injured starter at halftime, Sanders struggled to find a rhythm, completing only 4-of-16 passes for 47 yards with one interception, contributing to the team blowing a lead and losing 23-16. 

For Sanders, who was widely projected as a much higher selection before his draft day slide, this is a crucial pivot point. He now has a full week of first-team practice repetitions to prepare, a significant advantage he did not have during his unexpected regular-season debut last week.

The Raiders matchup offers Sanders a prime chance for a genuine bounce-back, as the 2–8 Las Vegas team presents a less formidable challenge than the Ravens. The team is focusing on making Sanders comfortable in the offensive system, tailoring concepts he feels confident in, after observing his struggles against pressure in his debut.

5:23 p.m.:  On 3rd and 9, Sanders hits Fanin, but it's short of the sticks.

The Browns punted back to Las Vegas, with just under two minutes left in the first half.

5:16 p.m.:  Cleveland's defense has performed well to start the game, forcing another three-and-out on the Raiders after the turnover.

After the punt, Sanders and the offense are set up just behind the Cleveland 30.

5:14 p.m.:  Once again, Cleveland turns it over on the first play of the drive. Sanders hits Jeudy this time, and it's a huge completion for 39 yards. But the receiver fumbles it and it's recovered by Las Vegas at the 33-yard line.

Sanders is over 100 yards, but a costly turnover by Jeudy forces the offense off the field.

5:09 p.m.:  While Geno Smith and the Raiders moved the ball a little, the Cleveland defense sacks the quarterback on third down and has to punt.

Sanders will come back on the field with Cleveland up 14-3 and just over four minutes remaining.

5:02 p.m.:  After Las Vegas made it 14-3, Sanders completes his first pass on 2nd & 16, going to Cedric Tillman for five yards.

But, on 3rd & 11, he is flushed out of the pocket and has to throw it away. Cleveland goes three-and-out for the third time.

4:55 p.m.:  Sanders' first throw after the bomb to Bond is an interception. 

He was trying to target Jerry Jeudy on a hitch, but it's grabbed by Charles Snowden and it's returned to the Cleveland 26.

4:40 p.m.:  Once again, the Browns opt to go to the wildcat formation right by the end zone.

With Judkins getting the snap, it ends the same way as as the first and Cleveland is up 14-0.

Judkins has two scores, this one set up by the Sanders bomb to Bond.

4:39 p.m.:  Sanders has the first big throw of his NFL career.

On 3rd & 8, the rookie faces pressure immediately from the Raiders front, but is able to roll right and deliver a deep ball to Bond inside the five-yard line.

This one goes for 53 yards down to the Las Vegas two.

4:27 p.m.:  Sanders goes down for the first time today, with Malcom Koonce getting to him for a three-yard loss.

On 3rd & 16, he tries targeting a receiver deep but it goes out of bounds, and Cleveland punts for the second time.

4:17 p.m.:  On 2nd & 5, the Browns opt to keep Sanders off the field, lining up Quinshon Judkins in the backfield.

The rookie running back takes the direct snap and bulldozes into the end zone for an eight-yard score. It's 7-0 Cleveland.

4:16 p.m.:  A 44-yard turnover has set up Sanders and the Browns offense in the red zone.

The game is 0-0, with a prime opportunity for Cleveland to get on the board.

4:08 p.m.:  On 3rd & 8, Sanders hits Isaiah Bond on a curl route near the sticks, but it's not enough for a first down. It goes for six yards, but the Browns send out the punting unit.

Sanders and Cleveland go three-and-out on drive one.

4:07 p.m.:  Sanders' first pass is complete, a screen pass to fellow rookie Harold Fanin Jr. For one yard.

4:06 p.m.:  We are underway in Las Vegas, and the Cleveland offense has the ball first.
