By all accounts, Shedeur Sanders has been very bad in 2025 with few exceptions. While he put up big numbers against the Tennessee Titans, it came in a losing effort that also featured a horrible interception that played a role in Cleveland losing at home. And lest we not forget his first taste of NFL action against the Baltimore Ravens when he went 4-of-16.

Week 15 was the cherry on top of the bad football sundae, though. Against the Chicago Bears, Sanders went 18-of-35 for 177 yards for three interceptions, good for a QBR of 8.2 in a 31-3 loss.

On the season now, Sanders is completing just over 52 percent of his passes while averaging 189 yards per game with five touchdowns and six interceptions. By every possible measurement, Sanders is in the conversation for worst quarterback in the NFL.

He has a passer rating of 68.1 - that ranks 46th in the NFL ahead of only Riley Leonard and Brady Cook. His completion percentage ranks 48th out of 48 qualified quarterbacks. Anthony Lima goes even deeper in the statistical deep dive.

Per Lima, out of 44 quarterbacks with at least 165 snaps, Sanders ranks 44th in EPA+CPOE, adjusted EPA per play, EPA per play, Success rate, and CPOE.

It goes without saying, at least to those of us who are normal and don't accuse the Browns and Kevin Stefanski of being at the center of a racist conspiracy, that Sanders isn't the future of the Browns. In all likelihood, he isn't the future of any team. What he is is something few teams will want to deal with - a backup quarterback who gets a lot of attention.
