The Cleveland Browns are seeing some promising play out of rookie fifth-rounder Shedeur Sanders. He's finally gotten a chance to start, and while Dillon Gabrile wasn't overly impressive, Sanders has shown some intrigue.

But, even with his potential, there's still a high likelihood that the Browns will draft another quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft.

For ESPN reporter Daniel Oyefusi, the Browns' 2026 NFL Draft plans could be bad news for Sanders. Oyefusi believes the Browns are very much considering taking a quarterback in round one of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Browns' 2026 NFL Draft plans could be bad news for Shedeur Sanders

When asked if the Browns would use one of their first-round picks on a quarterback, Oyefusi answered, "Yes, but the Browns could find themselves picking behind several QB-needy teams if Shedeur Sanders can lead them to a few victories down the stretch."

If Clevleand is indeed in the market for a new quarterback, as Oyfusi alludes to, then Sanders' role on the team would be very murky going forward.

With Gabriel being a third-round pick and Sanders being a fifth-round pick, there's a non-zero chance that the Browns are more committed to Gabriel, barring Sanders playing incredibly well down the stretch.

Even if he does play well, and the Browns have a lower draft pick because of it, they have the extra ammo to make a move-up in the draft to select a quarterback.

Cleveland has the ammo needed to land a franchise quarterback, and they also need the position. While Sanders has shown promise, there's still plenty of reason for the Browns to take a quarterback in round one, especially if they fall in love with a prospect.

Oyefusi reporting that the Browns are considering a quarterback, even if Sanders plays well enough to lower the draft pick, is a concerning report for Sanders.

Barring a very strong finish to 2025, it looks like Sanders will have some new competition in the quarterback room in 2026. Gabriel, Sanders, and a rookie might be the Cleveland quarterback room, and in such a crowded room, Sanders' future in Cleveland would be bleak.
