The NFL landscape is all about the QB in 2025. You can’t win without a good one, and once you find one, it’s imperative you surround him with protection. If not, you end up with situations like Andrew Luck or even Joe Burrow.
On the flip side, the most important position on the defense is now edge rusher. You need someone to pressure these elite QBs into poor throws and hopefully sacks.
The mark of an elite edge rusher is how often you’re able to get home on the QB. Every generation or so, there’s always one or two edge rushers who set themselves apart as a different breed, and one that will go down in history.
In this modern era, that player is Myles Garrett.
While players like T.J. Watt and Micah Parsons are certainly elite, Myles Garrett finds himself in a class all his own.
On Sunday, Myles Garrett further etched his name in NFL history by breaking one of the most impressive records in league history.
Myles Garrett breaks the NFL single-season sack record
During the final game of the 2001 NFL season, Michael Strahan “sacked” Brett Favre to set the record of 22.5 sacks in a single season. Unprecedented for that era.
In this 2025-26 season, it once again came down to the last game of the season as Garrett went into this game against the Bengals with 21.5 sacks, needing just one to break the record.
Despite his team not having anything to play for at this point in the season, Garrett seized the opportunity and broke the record. In the fourth quarter, Garrett came off the edge and brought down Joe Burrow for his place in NFL history.
History! Myles Garrett has broken the NFL record for sacks in a season, shattering a mark that’s stood since 2001.

Myles Garrett’s ability has never been in question despite the Browns' lack of overall team success. This record has to mean the world to one of the toughest and most dominant players we’ve ever seen at the position.
