Cleveland Browns insider teases upcoming quarterback trade image

The Cleveland Browns have a quarterback question to answer between now and Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season. With four new quarterbacks on the roster competing for three jobs, one of Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and/or Shedeur Sanders will have to be shipped elsewhere.

In a recent piece on his Patreon, Cleveland Browns insider Brad Stainbrook says the Browns should decide what rookie quarterback they like the most, and trade the other one.

“You can make a strong case for investing in either. But you can’t justify trying to develop both, not when the room already has two veterans getting meaningful work, and Watson is eventually expected to practice again during the 2025 season... when you bury young quarterbacks in a crowded depth chart, they don’t develop. They disappear.”

The Browns aren't going to keep four quarterbacks, so moving on from one is a guarantee. Being that the suggestion here is a rookie, though, goes against the popular belief that it could be Pickett who gets moved. However, a trade could make sense for both the team and one of the rookies. Should one of Sanders or Gabriel be sent to Tennessee, they'll be the No. 2 quarterback on the roster that would go in should Cam Ward suffer an injury.

Who will get moved will be determined before Week 1. Until then, we'll see how the quarterback competition shapes out.
