Browns massive mistake: Why hiring Tom Telesco to lead the HC search is total insanity image

The Cleveland Browns are once again causing their fans to shake their heads in disbelief. NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported on X that owner Jimmy Haslam has brought in former GM Tom Telesco as a consultant to spearhead their head coaching search.

This isn't just a questionable move—it’s an absolute disaster in the making.

Telesco’s track record for identifying sideline leadership is quite simply, horrible. In over a decade with the Chargers, he consistently wasted elite quarterback play from Philip Rivers and Justin Herbert by pairing them with coaches who were perpetually out of their depth.

His recent one-and-done stint with the Raiders, which ended on January 9th 2025, serves as the final warning.

The Telesco Coaching Graveyard:

  • Mike McCoy (Chargers): 27-37 record (1-1 playoffs) — A conservative era marked by stagnation.

  • Anthony Lynn (Chargers): 33-31 record (1-1 playoffs) — Despite a winning record, his game management was a weekly liability.

  • Brandon Staley (Chargers): 24-24 record (0-1 Playoffs) — Defined by a historic 27-point playoff collapse and a defense that ranked 31st.

  • Antonio Pierce (Raiders): 4-13 record (2024 Season) — Telesco’s inability to build a winning culture in Vegas led to a total house-cleaning after just 12 months.

Trusting a man who has gone 0-for-4 in hiring successful coaches to find the savior of the franchise is maddening. If history repeats itself, the Browns aren't finding a leader, they’re hiring their next disappointment.
