Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders didn’t say anything controversial in response to the rumor that he denied the Baltimore Ravens the opportunity to take him with the No. 144 pick in this past April’s draft.
Sanders denied that he denied the Ravens that chance when asked about it following Baltimore’s 41-17 win over Cleveland on Sunday. The “Grown QB” towed the company line to a T.
“My response is I’m focused on the now. I don’t really talk about anything in the past and whatever happened in the past, it is what it is. I’m more focused on now and I’m more focused on this game we just had and figuring out how to move forward from that,” Sanders said, per Cleveland.com.
“I don’t know. You wouldn’t believe my memory don’t even go back that far. I don’t remember anything post-draft. I remember I’m here, I go to practice every day and there’s a 24-hour rule.”
Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio predicted this exact scenario once the Sanders-Ravens rumor broke.
“It would be interesting to know whether Sanders currently regrets saying ‘no thanks’ to Baltimore. If he is, it’s unlikely that he’ll ever admit it,” Florio said.
Sanders is in no position to raise any hell in the media. Doing so would give Browns owner Jimmy Haslem and GM Andrew Berry ammunition to release him, since he went all training camp without rising out of the No. 4 spot on the depth chart and needed a Kenny Pickett trade to the Las Vegas Raiders to become QB3.
He did the right thing here, for his own sake. Plus, badmouthing the Ravens after his team was blown out by 24 points is a bad look.
