Browns reveal latest plans for Quinshon Judkins' role in Week 2 vs. Ravens image

Quinshon Judkins is back on the practice field.

The Cleveland Browns' second-round rookie RB is practicing Thursday for the first time since minicamp.

He agreed to his rookie contract a week-and-a-half ago and is now preparing with the rest of the Browns for their Week 2 game in Baltimore against the Ravens.

Will Judkins play? That's still to be determined.

This is what Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot reported on Thursday:

"OC Tommy Rees says the team will monitor RB Quinshon Judkins closely over the next couple of days to see if he's ready to face the Ravens on Sunday."

It could be tough for Judkins to be entirely ready after just two practices to get into regular season action against a fierce defense like the Ravens.

The Browns had a solid running back combination in Week 1. Rookie Dylan Sampson, a fourth-rounder out of Tennessee, led the way with 20 touches, and Jerome Ford also got some action.

Cleveland could certainly run it back with that tandem in Week 2 if Judkins is deemed not to be ready.

Judkins would likely be eased in slowly even if he's active, meaning Sampson could still lead the backfield in touches for a week or two before Judkins' entire role is revealed.

The Browns would certainly like to see the Ohio State national champion Judkins taking on opponents sooner rather than later, but they've also got to be careful not to rush things. With a crowded RB room and an offense with little margin for error, Cleveland has to get this right.
