Browns have 1 day to make major Deshaun Watson roster decision after injury image

The Cleveland Browns have until Tuesday to make a major roster decision involving quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Watson has been out since the end of last season, when he tore his Achilles.

Nearly three weeks ago, the Browns began Watson's 21-day activation window. That's the period of time he'd have to be activated from Injured Reserve. If the player isn't activated after 21 days, they return to IR and cannot come off it this season.

Watson's deadline for activation is Tuesday.

According to Andrew Siciliano, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday he has no update on Watson.

When the Browns began Watson's activation process, it allowed him to return to practices more fully.

Cleveland has been relying on Shedeur Sanders as its QB1, though, and there's no indication that will change in the final two weeks of the season.

Dillon Gabriel, another rookie who has started games this season, is Sanders' backup.

From a developmental standpoint, the Browns wouldn't gain much of anything from bringing Watson back right now.

Cleveland still has to decide what to do with Watson's onerous contract heading into 2026. But for right now, it's seeming more and more likely that he won't play this season.
