The Cleveland Browns are 2-8, but have seen their defense come to play this year. Myles Garrett is likely the Defensive Player of the Year favorite. Carson Schwesinger is the Defensive Rookie of the Year favorite, making up a very strong defense.

Jim Schwartz has coached up a great defense in Cleveland, further highlighting the need to find a franchise quarterback. But for now, the Browns' goal is to keep the defense together.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Browns are doing just that with an extension decision on a standout, 25-year-old pass rusher. Alex Wright, in his fourth season, is signing a much-deserved $33 million extension.

Browns sign Alex Wright to $33 million extension

"Another deal in Cleveland: Browns and defensive end Alex Wright reached agreement today on a three-year, $33 million extension that includes $21 million guaranteed, per agents Drew Rosenhaus and Shawn O’Dare," Schefter reports.

This extension for Wright is a big one and is very deserved for the young pass rusher. While Garrett draws a lot of attention, Wright has been one of the better Browns defenders this season.

The former 2022 third-round pick out of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) has been a solid contributor for the Browns this season. In nine games, he has one forced fumble, three sacks, 24 tackles, nine tackles for loss, and five pressures.

In 2023, Wright had a career-high five sacks and eight pressures, but that came across 16 games for Cleveland.

This season, he's playing roughly the same number of snaps, but his efficiency is improving. This production from Wright, in the final year of his deal, had the Browns ready to extend him.

Berry and the Cleveland front office do just that, ensuring Wright is staying with the Browns as a key member of their defense for the next three seasons.

Wright not only lands a strong payday, but he gets $21 million guaranteed of his $33 million extension. It's a good deal for both sides, as Wright lands a solid deal, and the Browns keep a promising 25-year-old pass rusher on the defense for the next three seasons.
