TL;DR

  • San Francisco 49ers face Cleveland Browns with injuries and Shedeur Sanders' second NFL start.
  • Defensive coordinator Robert Saleh praises Sanders' talent, mobility, and confidence.
  • Saleh anticipates Sanders will improve weekly due to his skill set and confidence.
  • A Sanders' domination of the 49ers would be extraordinary but possible.

The San Francisco 49ers will be going into a strange game against the Cleveland Browns for a few different reasons.

In addition to the team facing injuries on both defense and offense, this marks Shedeur Sanders' second appearance as a starter in the NFL, and his inaugural game playing for The Cleveland supporters at Huntington Bank Field during the regular season.

It'll be compelling to observe Sanders' performance, though it appears the 49ers are genuinely anticipating him to develop into the player many envisioned when he emerged from Colorado.

When addressing journalists regarding his expectations for Sanders' performance in the upcoming match, defensive coordinator Robert Saleh acknowledged the player's youth and considerable talent, expressing his admiration for many of the qualities Sanders exhibits as a signal-caller.

“He’s a good, young quarterback. He's mobile, he's got a big arm, tremendous confidence,” said Saleh, per the 49ers. “He made a couple of really, really good throws in the game against Vegas, extending plays, getting out of the pocket, delivering the ball where it needed to be delivered.

“Obviously, he showed good command of the huddle and at the line of scrimmage. You anticipate someone like him who's got that confidence, who has that skill set, he's just going to get better and better every week.”

It would be rather extraordinary to witness Sanders dominate the 49ers, though it would also be somewhat unexpected.

Nonetheless, it’s always a possibility, and it seems like Saleh and the defense understand that.
