Since starting the 2025 NFL season 2-0 and losing quarterback Joe Burrow to (likely) season-ending surgery, the Cincinnati Bengals have dropped three straight, losing to the Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos, and Detroit Lions.
Now 2-3, the Bengals are in trouble, needing to keep their season afloat if they want Burrow to return at some point in late December and lead them on a miraculous playoff run.
In the meantime, head coach Zac Taylor has no plans to change up playcalling duties on the sidelines.
Zac Taylor will remain the offensive playcaller for Bengals
During his Monday press conference, Taylor was asked whether he would consider giving up playcalling duties, given Cincinnati's current offensive struggles.
"It's a fair question. We score three points in three games in the first half. I totally understand that. But right now, it's going to remain the same," Taylor said via ESPN's Ben Baby.
When asked about ways he can improve the offense going forward, Taylor stressed getting the ball into the hands of the Bengals' offensive playmakers.
"Finding more opportunities for our playmakers to get the ball and finding ways to get them easy touches that they can lead to productivity in our offense. We haven't been productive enough. I don't worry about statistics right now. I care about wins."
While playcalling duties are going to stay with the head coach, we could see a change at the starting quarterback position.
Taylor declined to commit to quarterback Jake Browning, who has turned the ball over nine times already in three starts and one relief appearance in Week 2.
Something is going to have to change in Cincinnati; otherwise, the Bengals can chalk 2025 up to a lost season.
