Joe Burrow stats vs. Ravens: QB leads Bengals to win in Thanksgiving return from toe injury image

TL;DR

  • Joe Burrow returned from injury, but the Bengals struggled during his eleven-week absence.
  • Despite Burrow's impact, the Bengals face improbable playoff chances due to defensive issues.
  • Burrow's Thanksgiving return saw him complete 24 of 46 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns.
  • The Bengals offense showed flashes of rhythm, especially with Burrow connecting to Ja'Marr Chase.

The Cincinnati Bengals were 2-0 when Joe Burrow's season was interrupted by a toe injury. Burrow has since returned, but the Bengals have managed just one victory during his eleven-week absence.

Despite Burrow's considerable impact when healthy, the Bengals might be expecting too much from him as they aim for an improbable playoff resurgence. Even a season worthy of MVP consideration for Burrow didn't propel Cincinnati into the postseason in 2024; defensive shortcomings left the Bengals at 4-8 before a late-season surge that proved insufficient.

Even though their chances of making the playoffs seem unlikely, the Bengals are delighted to see their star player return to action, anticipating he'll generate some positive momentum as the season concludes, setting the stage for a strong performance in 2026.

Here's a look at how Burrow performed in his return to the field on Thanksgiving night.

Burrow completed 24 of 46 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns, managing the game without turnovers and building momentum with a 9-of-14 second-half performance after struggling with accuracy earlier.

Despite their defense generating five turnovers, the Bengals had difficulty converting scoring chances into touchdowns. In the first half, a turnover gave Cincinnati possession at the Baltimore Ravens' two-yard line, but they left with no points. Later in the second quarter, they reached within six yards of the end zone but ultimately kicked a field goal.

The passing game seemed just a tick off early on, with Burrow uncharacteristically missing Ja'Marr Chase at times, but he and Chase started to find a rhythm in the second quarter. The Bengals took the lead on a drive sparked by a 43-yard completion to Chase, and Chase finished the first half with 80 yards despite catching less than half of his targets.

By the third quarter, Burrow appeared completely at ease, continuing to protect the football while the Bengals maintained a substantial advantage.

Early in his return, Burrow targeted Chase. Chase had also just completed a one-game ban for spitting on Jalen Rams ey.

This was exactly what Bengals fans had been waiting to see:

Burrow's first touchdown pass back from his toe injury was a one-handed grab by TE Tanner Hudson.

This looks much more like a fully healthy Burrow.
