TL;DR

  • Trey Hendrickson, a premier pass rusher, might depart the Cincinnati Bengals in free agency.
  • Injuries and a subpar performance this season could make his departure less of a setback.
  • The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly interested in acquiring Hendrickson.
  • Hendrickson's potential contract could be covered by freeing up cap space.

The Cincinnati Bengals would probably be content with Trey Hendrickson walking during NFL free agency.

When Hendrickson has performed at his peak during his professional journey, one could contend he ranks among the premier pass rushers in the National Football League.

When it comes to pressuring the quarterback, he's among the best, but considering the contract issues from last offseason and some injuries this year, a departure might not be seen as a significant setback by some.

Several prominent teams across the league would reportedly welcome a player of his talent, and Peter Panacy, writing for Niner Noise, recently put forth the idea that the San Francisco 49ers might be among them.

Certainly, Hendrickson has contended with physical ailments throughout this season and is experiencing what many would consider a subpar performance, accumulating only four sacks across seven contests. Furthermore, the individual, who will soon turn 31, is not precisely a rising star...

“OTC values Hendrickson's 2025 efforts at just over $11 million on the season. And while he'd assuredly command much more on his next free-agent deal, the freed-up money from Aiyuk's voided guarantee should easily cover the vast bulk of what Hendrickson should cost. So, if the 49ers still view their championship window as being wide open, what to do with that cash is brutally clear,” he wrote.

The 49ers consistently aim to enhance their performance across the entire team, as they are generally in contention for a championship. The acquisition of Hendrickson would further bolster their capabilities, presenting him as a valuable asset for a franchise striving for ultimate success in the foreseeable future.
