Report: Chiefs plan to bring back current Bears' OC Eric Bieniemy image

It's been a quick week for Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.

After Chicago lost in the NFC Divisional round to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night, the offensive coordinator has received interest from the team he won two Super Bowls with in 2019 and 2022.

The Chiefs officially requested to interview the coach who has experience lasting over two decades on Monday, and this process is inching closer and closer to a deal.

Schultz: Chiefs plan to hire Eric Bieniemy as new offensive coordinator

The Chiefs have elected not to re-sign offensive coordinator Matt Nagy to a new deal. This has resulted in the team looking for someone else to fill the role of leading the offense.

What was originally just a request to interview Bieniemy has further developed. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Chiefs "plan to hire Eric Bieniemy as their new OC, reuniting him with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid."

Bieniemy had moved on from the Chiefs following the 2022 NFL season in hopes of landing a promotion as a head coach for a different organization.

The Washington Commanders hired him to serve as the assistant head coach/offensive coordinator in 2023 before he took a deal in the NCAA, having the same role for UCLA.

In 2024, first-year Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson invited him onto the team as the offensive coordinator. Bieniemy helped lead Caleb Williams and the new-look Bears to an NFC North championship and helped Chicago get their first postseason win since 2010.

With a three-season break from the Chiefs, it appears that Bieniemy will be rejoining the team that he helped lead to two Super Bowls
