Following an 0-3 start, the New York Jets are on track to be sellers at the NFL trade deadline.
One Jets player who stands out as a clear trade candidate ahead of the deadline is running back Breece Hall, who is in the final year of his rookie contract and has a good chance to leave in free agency in 2026.
Pro Football & Sports Network's Josh Weil agrees and suggested the Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders and Los Angeles Chargers as possible trade suitors for the starting running back.
When a coach has a bell-cow type of back like Hall and wants to utilize all of the team’s options, that tells me the team is looking for one of the backup options to play their way into a role without the pressure of the workload. It also tells me that Hall now knows that he won’t be the focal point of the run game, so it makes a reunion in free agency less likely.
Of course, trading Hall would be a tough pill to swallow for the Jets, but with a number of teams desperate to get their running game right, they could get a really nice return for a guy they were going to lose at the end of the year anyway.
Potential suitors: Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Chargers, Chicago Bears
The Chargers could use more help at running back following the season-ending injury to Najee Harris, which leaves rookie Omarion Hampton and veteran Hassan Haskins as the only two backs on the roster. Hall would be a good complement to Hampton and can add an explosive element to Los Angeles' offense.
He wouldn't make as much sense in Chicago, seeing as how Hall is a similar back to D'Andre Swift. Now, if the Bears were sending Swift back in the trade with the Jets, that would be a more logical approach and Chicago would be getting an upgrade at running back.
For the Commanders, the season-ending injury to Austin Ekeler leaves the team with a running back trio of Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Chris Rodriguez and Jeremy McNichols. Adding Hall to that group would no doubt provide a boost to the Commanders' rushing attack and offense overall.
Because they have the most uncertainty at running back, we'd peg the Commanders as the most likely team of the three to make a move for Hall.
