Rams, Jets named potential trade suitors for electric 23-year-old quarterback image

The Los Angeles Rams and New York Jets both have a major question mark when it comes to the future at the quarterback position.

The Rams are solid right now thanks to veteran signal-caller Matthew Stafford, but the Super Bowl-winning quarterback is also 37 and may not be around for much longer.

The Jets signed Justin Fields to a two-year contract and they are hoping he can cement himself as the long-term solution, but based on what we've seen from the Ohio State product during his NFL career, that's not guaranteed to happen.

As a result of their respective situations, Pro Football & Sports Network's Josh Weil suggested the two teams as potential trade suitors for Indianapolis Colts quarterback, Anthony Richardson.

Here is where things get interesting: who had Daniel Jones in MVP discussions for the 2025-26 season on their bingo card? I definitely did not, but good for him, he found a home, won the job, and is balling. But did anyone think that maybe Jones just looked this good in practice, and maybe Anthony Richardson still has some good football left in him?

Richardson showed flashes that he can be good in this league, and I really think with the right coaching/mentorship, and the humbling of earning a job, a trade could be the best thing for Richardson. He actually led the entire NFL in yards per completion last year, so if he can take less risks with the ball and learn more about how to break down an NFL defense, he could find a home.

Richardson was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, but his career has been a major disappointment thanks to injury and ineffective play.

The Florida product was locked in a competition for the starting job with veteran Daniel Jones during the offseason but failed to win it. Now, Jones is thriving and Richardson's days in Indy figure to be numbered.

If Richardson hits the trade block, there will most certainly be teams interested. Yes, Richardson's stock is in the toilet, but he's still just 23 years old and teams might believe they can get him on the right track and make the most out of his electric skillset.

If for no other reason than the franchise's awful history with quarterbacks, Richardson should avoid the Jets like the plague if he has a say.

That said, it wouldn't be crazy to think the Jets might consider Richardson given the uncertain status of the quarterback position for the long haul.

We would love to see Richardson hook up with an elite play-caller like Rams head coach Sean McVay, who is one of the few coaches in the NFL we think could actually fix Richardson.

Richardson won't have his fifth-year option picked up, so that means he's under contract through 2026.

The Rams could bring him in now and have him sit behind Stafford for the rest of this season before re-evaluating things next year. Then, Los Angeles could have Richardson compete for the backup or starting job in 2026, depending on what happens with Stafford.
