The Chicago Bears are coming into this matchup against the Los Angeles Rams with a red-hot quarterback and a rookie tight end. Caleb Williams and Colston Loveland are two of the hottest players in the NFL.
While Loveland will get plenty of work in this matchup, the Bears' offense can't rely on just one player to function. Rome Odunze, Luther Burden, and DJ Moore will also need to have big days for the Bears.
But another offensive weapon, backup tight end Cole Kmet, might be a sneaky important player for the Bears against the Rams in the Divisional round, as Matt Bowen of ESPN noted.
Cole Kmet might be Bears' secret weapon vs. Rams
"Offensive key to victory: Feature the pass game in 12 personnel," Bowen writes. "The Bears produced 21 completions of 20 or more yards out of 12 personnel this season, tied for second most in the league."
Being in an offensive personnel grouping that results in such great offensive numbers should be a no-brainer for the Bears and Ben Johonson.
But, with three good wide receivers, the Bears might be in more 11 personnel than 12 personnel. 12 personnel has two receivers on the field with one running back and two tight ends.
With Loveland's skillset as a receiver, the Bears could stay in 12 personnel in this game to better protect Caleb Williams with Kmet as a blocker or chipper against Jared Verse and Bryon Young.

Having more protection for Williams in this matchup is a key to victory for the Bears, and Kmet might be a bigger part of the gameplan than normal.
Along with his blocking abilities, the Rams' defense isn't as strong in their linebacker room, and Kmet could figure to have a decently productive day with all of the focus on the running game, Loveland, and the wide receiver trio.
Kmet might be a sneaky important player for the Bears in this matchup, as the Chicago offense should be in 12 personnel to have their best possible matchup against the Rams.
