Ben Johnson hints at exciting role change for Bears WR Luther Burden III image

The Chicago Bears are 7-3 and sitting atop the NFC North. Ben Johnson has been an overwhelmingly positive influence so far this season and has turned things around for the Bears' offense in a major way.

Caleb Williams looks great, as do the running backs and Rome Odunze. Coleston Loveland hasn't been consistently involved this season, but he's delivered when his number is called.

And recently, Luther Burden III has as well. During a press conference shared by the Bears on CHSN, Johnson hinted at how Burden's role in the offense could change. It would be an exciting one for the Bears' rookie receiver.

Ben Johnson hints at role increase for Luther Burden III

"You get what you earn, and I think he's earned the increased snaps," Johnson said. "... He's steadily climbed.... As a young rookie, I think he's progressing nicely."

Burden has been playing behind veteran slot receiver Olamide Zaccheaus this season, but in Week 11 against the tough Minnesota Vikings defense, Burden played over Zaccheaus.

DJ Moore and Odunze led the receivers in snaps, but Burden came in third with 33 snaps played. He's been getting more work as the season has gone along, and looks to be poised for a larger role going forward.

The second-round pick out of Missouri has seen his usage increase over the last few weeks, and Johnson's comment indicates that his role isn't going anywhere anytime soon. In fact, Burden could begin to see more consistent work as he builds trust in the offense.

So far this year, he has 19 receptions for 249 yards and one touchdown. In Week 11 against the Vikings, he had five targets for three catches and 27 yards. While not a strong day, his usage in the offense is better than it's been before.

His best week came back against the Dallas Cowboys, when he had three catches for 101 yards and one touchdown, thanks to an incredible flea-flicker 65-yard pass from Williams down the left sideline.

Burden's increased role is one to watch as the season progresses. While he likely won't overtake Moore or Odunze in the offense, Burden's productivity is set to increase over the final weeks of the season, especially as they face tougher competition and try to hold onto the NFC North.
