The Chicago Bears have a bit of a shifting backfield.

D'Andre Swift may not be around next season. Seventh-round rookie Kyle Monangai will, but what's his long-term role?

There's probably room for a free agent signing of a more experienced player to pair with the youngster.

Bleacher Report's Alex Kay is on board with that plan, suggesting a contract from the Bears to soon-to-be free agent Travis Etienne from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

That contract is projected as four years and $34 million total.

"Given his contributions in all areas of the offense—he's racked up 286 yards and six of his scores on 35 catches this year—and proven ability to lead a backfield, Etienne should be a desirable free-agent candidate this offseason," Kay writes. "While he likely won't command as much as Breece Hall, his affordability could lead to him landing with another up-and-coming contender led by a first-time head coach in the Chicago Bears. The Bears have been a revelation under Ben Johnson and could take another step forward in 2026 with Etienne in their backfield. Chicago currently ranks No. 3 in rushing offense and could lead the league in this category if it opts to make an upgrade from current starter D'Andre Swift to Etienne."

The Jaguars aren't likely to keep Etienne. They have two rookie running backs than can take over his various roles.

The Bears are on the upswing, though, and if Etienne is viewed as a legitimate upgrade, he's worth pursuing.

Etienne was once a superstar at Clemson, and he's been solid in the NFL. He can pair nicely with Caleb Williams and the rest of the Bears offense.
