The Chicago Bears lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Divisional round, but the Bears didn't exit without some more late-game heroics. This time, it's even more unfathomable.
Caleb Williams, drifting backwards nearly 30 yards, lobbed a pass into the corner of the endzone for a last-second, 4th-down touchdown to Cole Kmet. Losing after such an incredible moment is hard to believe.
However, according to OptaSTATS, the Bears aren't the first team to lose a game after scoring the game-tying TD in the last 30 seconds. In fact, in NFL playoff history, every team to score a game-tying TD in the last 30 seconds went on to lose.
Misery loves company amid Bears' last-second TD
"In NFL playoff history, 4 teams have had a game-tying TD (including XP) in the last 30 seconds of the 4th. All 4 lost in OT." OptaSTATS shared.
The 2025 Bears losing to the Rams after tying the game on the miraculous touchdown is the fourth instance in a row of a team losing the game in OT after getting the game-tying score this late in the game.
Most recently, back in 2015, the Green Bay Packers lost to the Arizona Cardinals in the incredible Aaron Rodgers Hail Mary game.
In 2004, the Los Angeles Chargers lost in the Wild Card round with Drew Brees throwing the game-tying TD to Antonio Gates.

The first instance came back in 1987, when the Seattle Seahawks lost in the Wild Card after scoring their game-tying touchdown with 26 seconds left.
All four of these teams in NFL history, after scoring the game-tying score in the last 30 seconds, went on to lose the game in overtime.
The Bears' crushing loss isn't the first time such a swing of emotions has happened before, but even more stunning, no team that's ever done something as the Bears did ever gone on to win the game.
It's a rare occurrence, but seeing that no team's won a game in such a situation is a wild piece of NFL history. The Bears aren't alone in their heartbreak, as every other team to score in such a situation has gone on to lose.
