Bears' Eric Bieniemy could return to Chiefs after recent news image

Following the loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Divisional round, the Chicago Bears were a surprising team this NFL season. With big success comes some speculation among the coaching staff.

Reports are showing that Bears offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is getting interest from other teams. One of the franchises happens to be the team that Bieniemy has found the greatest coaching success with.

Senior NFL insider Adam Schefter announced that the Kansas City Chiefs have requested to interview Bieniemy for their vacant offensive coordinator job.

Report: Chiefs show interest in bringing back Eric Bieniemy as offensive coordinator

The Kansas City Chiefs missed the postseason for the first time since 2014 after finishing the 2025 regular season with a 6-11 record.

Things weren't clicking for the team that was pushing for a fourth-straight Super Bowl appearance.

Kansas City ranked in the middle to lower tier across every major offensive statistical category in 2025. This resulted in the Chiefs firing offensive coordinator Matt Nagy.

Now, Kansas City is in the hunt for a new coordinator to lead the offense, and Eric Bienemy was the man who worked together with quarterback Patrick Mahomes in helping win Super Bowls in 2019 and 2022.

The 56-year-old coach had left the Chiefs' organization following the 2022 season with the motivation of finding a better path to land a head coaching gig with a new team.

He was never able to land a job as the lead man since leaving Kansas City. He became the Washington Commanders assistant head coach/offensive coordinator in 2023, and then took his experience to the NCAA to serve a similar role for UCLA in 2024 before getting hired to Ben Johnson's staff with the Bears in 2025.
