The Chicago Bears currently sit in a position that's frankly unknown territory for the team and certainly for the fans. The Bears sit atop the NFC North in first place with a 7-3 record.

Caleb Williams is shining in year two, Ben Johnson has been everything the Bears needed and more, and the Chicago defense, while not perfect, is leading the NFL in forced turnovers. Nobody is saying this team is a Super Bowl contender, but they'd be lying if they said this team isn't fun.

One of the only downsides to this season for Chicago has been the injury bug, specifically on the defensive side of the ball.

Luckily, after a stellar preseason, the intriguing young edge Austin Booker has returned, and Bears franchise cornerback Jaylon Johnson was just activated off of IR last week and could make his return this week against Pittsburgh.

The Bears just got even more good news today. Even more help is on the way.

Bears activate Kyler Gordon from the IR

It's been fairly impressive to see what the Chicago defense has been able to do with respect to their turnover margins. While many of the other defensive passing stats may not look great, the secondary has been able to make plays when it counts.

Much of this can be attributed to the lights-out play of safety Kevin Byard, who has had a resurgence at 32 years of age. Luckily for the veteran, not only is Jaylon Johnson almost back, but so is Kyler Gordon.

Gordon is lightning in a bottle, and his return will instantly shoot up that Chicago defense with a jolt of energy.

The 25-year-old corner had a career high in total tackles last season with 75, forced a fumble, recovered three, and had five passes defended. As a number two corner opposite Jaylon Johnson, he is someone you can't repeatedly target without being punished.

Adding both Johnson and Gordon to the fold with the All-Pro season Kevin Byard has been having will create a formidable secondary that any QB should be wary of.
