Tyrell Shavers seized his chance.

The Buffalo Bills surprisingly scratched Keon Coleman on Sunday, and that meant Shavers stepped into a bigger role. And there he was, snatching a long touchdown from Josh Allen in a key win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Shavers may be looking at a similar role on Thursday Night Football against the Houston Texans, and it does have fans noticing his jersey number of 14.

That was made popular in Buffalo in recent years by the since-departed WR Stefon Diggs.

Shavers likely won't ever be as prolific as Diggs, who had four consecutive seasons of more than 1,000 yards with the Bills.

But with his tendency to make big plays, Shavers is doing his best to make these digits his own.

Why does Tyrell Shavers wear Stefon Diggs' old jersey number 14?

Shavers has a history with the number 14.

He wore it in college at both San Diego State and at Alabama. When Shavers was at Mississippi State, he wore 9. At Lewisville High School, it looks like Shavers wore No. 1.

Shavers wore 80 this preseason, but when he made the final roster, he picked up 14.

There aren't that many numbers available on a given NFL roster. Shavers' choice surely didn't have anything to do with Diggs. He's comfortable with 14, so when given the chance to take it for himself, he didn't hesitate.
