When the Buffalo Bills take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in the wild-card game on Sunday afternoon, they won't have cornerback Maxwell Hairston and linebacker Terrel Bernard.
That's because both players have been ruled out for the contest against the Jaguars due to injuries.
Hairston suffered an ankle injury in the Week 18 contest against the New York Jets, and Bernard is dealing with a calf issue he sustained in Week 17. Neither player practiced this week before being ruled out.
Here's what we know about the potential for Bernard and Hairston to return to the lineup if the Bills advance to the divisional round.
Hairston, Bernard return timelines
While nothing is certain when it comes to Hairston and Bernard returning next week should the Bills win on Sunday, there is at least a chance.
That injury update comes from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, who reported the following:
"If the Bills win, they have a chance to get Terrel Bernard and Maxwell Hairston back next week," Rapoport wrote.
Getting both players back would be a huge boost for the Bills. Bernard is one of their better defenders and Hairston provides more depth in the secondary.
If the Bills advance on Sunday, we should get the next injury updates on Hairston and Bernard when head coach Sean McDermott first addresses the media this coming week.
