When is Tyler Bass coming back? Bills' kicker injury news keeps Matt Prater on the job image

Matt Prater made sure Buffalo Bills fans quickly forgot they had another kicker.

When Prater showed up just before the season opener and then kicked a game-winner against the Baltimore Ravens, he was immediately welcomed.

It made it easy to put Tyler Bass on the backburners of the minds of Bills Mafia.

But wait, Bass has been mostly reliable and is a guy the Bills invested in. Yet he hasn't kicked at all in 2025. What gives?

When is Tyler Bass coming back?

The short answer is that there's no clarity on a Bass return.

Bass was eligible to return from Injured Reserve in Week 5.

He has yet to even be designated to return from IR yet, the move that opens a 21-day practice window. So he's likely, at minimum, a few weeks away, which is the way it's been all season at this point.

Bass has a hip/groin injury, which doesn't sound ideal for the mechanics that it takes to kick.

There haven't really been any tangible updates on Bass. At this point, it's quite curious.

The Bills will keep riding with Prater.

If Bass somehow gets healthy by the stretch run, Buffalo may have a very interesting decision on its hands.
