The Buffalo Bills' inactive list on Sunday brought with it a bit of surprise.

Both Keon Coleman and Gabe Davis were out for the Week 16 game against the Cleveland Browns.

The Bills then went out and won a close one, 23-20, a game in which they ran a lot and Josh Allen did very little through the air.

On Monday, Bills head coach Sean McDermott was asked about the choice to have both inactive.

McDermott told reporters that it was a "lineup-based decision," according to beat reporter Joe Buscaglia.

Essentially, McDermott is saying that the Bills' gameplan didn't include a need for Coleman and Davis.

Given that Buffalo went out and ran, ran and ran some more, that does add up. Neither Coleman nor Davis add anything to the Bills' attack as blockers.

The Bills also wanted to get Mecole Hardman active after his return from injury. That meant a different wideout had to sit.

Davis has been a healthy scratch recently, while Coleman had been playing again since his two-game benching earlier in the season for disciplinary reasons.

McDermott affirmed in his Monday media availability that this wasn't about discipline, just lineups.

It still isn't a great look for the future of Coleman or Davis with the Bills.
