The Buffalo Bills will look to get to 5-0 on Sunday night when they play host to their AFC East rivals, the New England Patriots. And while the game has division stakes and is a primetime clash between Josh Allen and rising star quarterback Drake Maye, it also marks the return to Buffalo for Stefon Diggs.
The former Bills wideout was traded to Buffalo ahead of the 2020 season, and together, he and Allen became one of the best quarterback-wide receiver duos in the NFL. Tension with Diggs and the organization led to a trade to the Houston Texans in the spring of 2024. The two teams faced off that season, with the Texans defeating the Bills by three. Now, ahead his first game as the visitor in Buffalo, Diggs anticipates he'll be emotional.
“It’s going to be a little bit emotional," Diggs said via Matthew Bove. "I try to keep the main thing the main thing, but it’s going to be my first time back there. It’s going to be a hell of an atmosphere. I was part of that for a long time. I played there before I got there, so I’m excited.”
Diggs adds that he still loves the city of Buffalo.
"I got a lot of love for that city, for that fan base, and even the players over there," Diggs said.
While the breakup between the star receiver and the franchise he helped bring so much success to was public and less than optimal, it's clear Diggs valued his time with the Bills and Bills Mafia. We'll see how receptive the fans are to him when he takes the field.
