On the same day the Buffalo Bills found out they won't be getting cornerback Darius Slay after all, the team also found out the guy they cut to make room for him is heading to another team.
According to the league's transactions wire, cornerback Ja'Marcus Ingram has been claimed off waivers by the Houston Texans.
"Former Bills CB Ja'Marcus Ingram was claimed on waivers by the Houston Texans, per today's transaction wire," ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg wrote.
Ingram was cut loose on Wednesday after the Bills claimed Slay, who has now informed the team he might retire and won't be reporting.
"Slay is honored that a first-class organization like the Bills claimed him, but he is going to take some time away from football right now and decide in the next few days if he wants to keep playing," Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN's Adam Schefter Thursday.
The Bills' likely course of action in the wake of Slay's decision would have been to bring Ingram back, but clearly that is no longer an option. It only adds insult to injury with Slay's decision.
The good news is, not having either player isn't going to impact Buffalo's season during the stretch run.
Again, Ingram was a backup and Slay was on a steep decline that made it unlikely he'd contribute much.
Look for Buffalo to add another cornerback as depth, either in the days ahead or at some point next week.
