It was already a bit of a surprise to hear that former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel would be interviewing to be the Buffalo Bills' head coach.

He had already been reported as the new offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Chargers, so this was setting up to be a quick pivot.

McDaniel was supposed to be interviewed on Friday, but it turns out this tale has another twist.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, that interview never happened.

"Sources: Mike McDaniel canceled his scheduled HC interview yesterday with the #Bills," Schultz wrote on X. "Both sides remain in contact for a potential interview, and there’s still a strong possibility he moves forward with the #Chargers OC job."

McDaniel is a great offensive mind, which shows in the fact that he already got an offensive coordinator gig so soon after his firing from the Dolphins.

There was some initial excitement about what it'd be like if he was paired with Josh Allen in Buffalo.

According to that Schultz report, McDaniel may still be in the picture. Life happens, and maybe there's a simple explanation why McDaniel ended up not interviewing on Friday.

The Bills' head coaching search has taken some twists already, including the fact that Philip Rivers interviewed for the gig on Friday.

Whether or not McDaniel remains in the picture is now a bit of an uncertainty, but the Bills have a lot of names to choose from either way.
