Keon Coleman rumor pinpoints behind-the-scenes issue for Bills wide receiver image

Keon Coleman's future with the Buffalo Bills is on shaky ground.

That was the case even before Bills owner Terry Pegula's controversial decision to direct the blame at the coaching staff for drafting him, something that was bizarre for an owner to do, especially with a player who is still under contract.

Not only was Coleman not very productive in his second year, he was also benched for disciplinary reasons twice during the campaign, and that was also the cause of a benching during his rookie campaign.

At least two of those instances were a result of Coleman being late to a team meeting, and we now might have a good idea what led to him being late.

According to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, Coleman has a "sleep issue."

"From what I understand from speaking to sources is that Keon Coleman has a sleep issue. Not good, obviously, and something that needs to be fixed. But that feels more manageable than something else — assuming, of course, that’s all there is. Certainly possible there’s more to the story than I’ve been told," Underhill said.

To be clear, Underhill did not directly blame Coleman's lateness on said sleep issue, but if we're connecting the dots here, it's safe to assume he might have overslept for the meetings he was late to.

Even before Pegula's aforementioned comment, Coleman was pegged as a trade candidate this offseason.

He failed to take the step forward the Bills needed, and so much so that he was even a healthy scratch on multiple occasions for non-disciplinary reasons.

Despite all that, there should be a market for Coleman, who is still just 22 years old and offers a low-cost, low-risk option for wide receiver-needy teams that will hope a change of scenery will do him some good.

But the Bills are going to take a bath when they trade him, as Buffalo isn't going to recoup the second-round pick the team used on him. Instead, we'd expect a fourth- or fifth-round selection in a deal that would likely also involve a pick swap.
