The Buffalo Bills made the decision to fire head coach Sean McDermott after another disappointing postseason result.
The Bills lost in the Divisional Round on Saturday against the Denver Broncos after many picked the Bills to go all the way this season. Now, the team will get a fresh start at head coach with the hopes of taking that next step.
However, it was surprising to learn that the Bills not only kept general manager Brandon Beane, but promoted him to president of football operations as well. Beane has been the general manager since 2017, and it's rare to see an executive get the chance to hire multiple head coaches.
Not everybody is thrilled with the Beane decision. Former Bills running back LeSean McCoy took to social media to express his frustration with the team.
"Wait wait so the GM stays after all these non talented rosters and absolutely NO HELP for Josh on offense or defense lol only in THE NFL," McCoy vented.
It's a fair point from McCoy. Many have complained that the Bills don't have the best group of pass-catchers around Josh Allen. Beane's draft history is also not great, especially in recent seasons.
As a result, Allen has been one of the best passers in the league, but the team has consistently underperformed in the postseason. The Bills haven't been to the Super Bowl since the 1993 season, despite making the playoffs in each of the past seven seasons.
McCoy was a part of the Bills turning around, so his opinion carries some weight. The running back earned three Pro Bowl selections during his time with the Bills and then went on to win one Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
If McCoy is unhappy about the Beane decision, other players likely are too. Defensive lineman Jordan Phillips made it known he was unhappy with the decision to fire McDermott as well, so it'll be interesting to see how Buffalo goes forward.
It's clear, though, that the Bills are going forward with Beane, and the executive will pick the next head coach. Whether that plan ends up working out is another story entirely.
