Buffalo Bills Super Bowl fate hinges on play of rookie defender image

The Buffalo Bills will all but certainly be in the Super Bowl bubble once again in 2025. As long as Josh Allen is under center behind a good offensive line, they will be in that conversation. However, the offense isn't what Bills fans worry about, it's the defense.

In four playoff games against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Bills' offense is averaging over 28 points per game and they have lost every time - that's on the defense. Because of this, Matt Holder of Bleacher Report labels rookie cornerback Max Hairston as Buffalo's biggest question mark - can he fill the CB2 role?

"The Bills don't have many question marks offensively with Josh Allen leading the way, and the defense does have a quality No. 1 cornerback in Christian Benford," Holder writes. "However, the spot opposite him is a concern, especially if the team's first-round pick isn't ready to start as a rookie. Luckily, Maxwell Hairston's biggest competition for the role, Tre'Davious White, has spoken highly of how the rookie has looked so far in OTAs."

The Bills lost Benford early in the AFC Championship Game due to a head injury, which led to Kaiir Elam getting meaningful snaps. How did that go? He got traded to the Dallas Cowboys. If Hairston can be a good CB2, the Bills could finally get over the hump and get to the Super Bowl. If not, they could find themselves in a similar spot.
