The Buffalo Bills' offense is coming off a miserable Sunday.

And from afar on Monday, those members of the Bills who had previously played under offensive coordinator Brian Daboll watched as the New York Giants fired him from his head coaching position.

No, Daboll won't come riding in on a white horse to save the Bills' offense, at least this season. Joe Brady and Josh Allen will continue working together to solve woes.

But there's a lot of reason to long for pieces of the past in Buffalo.

Daboll and Allen grew up together. Their pairing is what made Daboll a desired commodity to become an NFL head coach in the first place.

They also had Stefon Diggs, the enigmatic wide receiver who had four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons with the Bills, who started his tenure in Buffalo under Daboll.

Diggs just had a stellar touchdown catch on Sunday in the Patriots' win over the Buccaneers, and New England is now two games ahead on the Bills in the AFC East.

Speaking of the Pats: Mack Hollins had six catches for 106 yards in that win. He didn't play for Daboll in Buffalo, but he led the Bills' WRs in touchdown catches a season ago and is now with a division rival.

Just a week ago, the Bills were coming off a potentially season-defining win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Now, they're trying to figure out what went wrong while looking all around the NFL and seeing what their old friends are up to.

Maybe next season, Daboll will return for a gig in Buffalo, or maybe he'll go elsewhere to be an OC.

Maybe down the road, Diggs and/or Hollins will be a friend to the Bills again and not a rival.

But for now, Daboll is out of a job, and the Bills are trailing Diggs and Hollins in the AFC East. It's an odd place for Buffalo to be.
