Josh Allen is probably still banged up from Thursday night.

The Buffalo Bills' superstar quarterback was sacked eight times by the Houston Texans in a disappointing defeat that featured just three second-half points for Buffalo.

It was a loss that revealed all sorts of problems.

Alaina Getzenberg analyzed two of them in ESPN's weekly roundup of NFL action. In her analysis, the focuses were on overall team talent, as well as turnovers.

Turnovers are fixable, sort of. Talent? Not as much.

"There will always be a chance with Allen, even though he hasn't played his best in certain losses this season," Getzenberg wrote. "But the reality is that the offense is running out of time to figure it out, and there's no season-changing receiver walking through the door to fix some of the issues."

The Bills at least took a shot at that last season when they traded for Amari Cooper.

At this season's trade deadline, Buffalo didn't make any moves.

There are a few veterans that are free agents at the WR position who at least have name value, like Odell Beckham Jr. And Brandin Cooks. But would they change the season for the Bills at this stage? Not necessarily.

It won't matter if Buffalo can't hold onto the ball.

"The Bills' 26-game streak of not losing the turnover margin ended in Week 5, and the situation has been trending poorly since," Getzenberg writes. "This week's game was a prime example of how mistakes, such as wide receiver Khalil Shakir's fumble at the Buffalo 22-yard line, have become a key issue for this team. And while the offense is turning it over twice as much as last year (eight in 2024 to 16 in 2025), the defense is struggling to take the ball away (32 takeaways last year to 13 so far this season)."

On some level, personnel can also impact turnovers. Some players are more prone to giving the ball away, but even star players start giving it away more if they feel they have to try to do more with less.

None of this is positive. The Bills still hold a wild card spot and can likely make the playoffs. But without more talent, or at least a much better protection of the football, it'll be hard to make noise.
