The Buffalo Bills were blown out 38-0 by the Chicago Bears in the second game of the preseason. And while it's only an exhibition, the play of the Bills' defense was unacceptable, especially in the early stages.
On the first drive of the game, Caleb Williams led the Bears 93 yards down the field and threw a touchdown in which both Cole Bishop and Damar Hamlin looked incapable of being on the field. So what can Buffalo do to help themselves on the back end? Well, luckily for them, a three-time All-Pro is still on the open market.
Justin Simmons is still a free agent. The All-Pro safety spent 2024 with the Falcons, picking off two passes to get him to 32 interceptions on his career. He would be the perfect addition to the Bills' defense and start immediately at a position that doesn't have any proven talent outside of Taylor Rapp. Simmons himself even namedropped the Bills as a team he'd love to play for.
"I said in a podcast maybe a couple weeks ago... teams like Buffalo, Philly, Cincinnati," Simmons told Kay Adams. "Teams like that, that have always been in the mix, obviously Philly just winning it last year, it'd be special."
Considering how dire the need is, Buffalo should call Simmons and get a deal done as soon as possible.
