Buffalo Bills get bad news on offensive line ahead of 2026 NFL free agency image

The Buffalo Bills head into the offseason with multiple question marks along the offensive line.

Those question marks come in the form of center Connor McGovern and guard David Edwards, both of whom are pending free agents.

While the Bills would like to bring both back, that's going to prove to be difficult, as the market for starting-caliber offensive linemen is very competitive and the Bills are in rough shape financially, with the team being $13.9 million over the cap.

According to ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg, Buffalo's financial situation increases the odds the team will have a different starting five upfront in 2026.

"The Bills had the exact same starting offensive line in front of quarterback Josh Allen the past two seasons, but continuing that in 2026 will be difficult with both McGovern and starting left guard David Edwards set to hit free agency," she wrote. "This group has worked well together with offensive line coach Aaron Kromer, who is retiring, and while there would be real upside for the Bills in that five staying together, there's a solid amount of work to do to this roster this offseason, especially with a new coach coming in. Finances are going to come into play here, increasing the odds of the group looking different next season."

Spotrac projects McGovern will receive a three-year, $48.8 million deal in free agency, while Edwards is slated to get $59 million over three years.

Not only do the Bills have limited funds, they also have to address needs on both sides of the ball, with edge rusher and wide receiver being among them.

That's obviously going to make things even more difficult when it comes to keeping McGovern and/or Edwards.

So, while the Bills are going to try their hardest to keep their starting offensive line intact, there's simply too much working against them to expect that to happen.
