Bruce Arians is confused.
He's not the only one trying to figure out what the Buffalo Bills made the decisions they did with head coach Sean McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane.
McDermott was fired on Monday.
Beane got a promotion, to president of football operations.
Some would've done the exact opposite maneuver, and the long-time NFL coach Arians is one of them.

Arians joined The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday and had this to say:
“This one baffles me. How Brandon Beane got elevated and Sean McDermott got fired - that just blows my mind because they didn’t have any damn players. The guy is one of the best coaches in the league… and Brandon Beane gets a f---ing raise?”
Beane's drafting record isn't good.
Beane's recent history of signing free agents, particularly at the wide receiver spot, isn't good, either.
Bills owner Terry Pegula clearly felt he had to do something to try and maximize Josh Allen's Super Bowl chances, and he chose the new head coach route.

Some judgment can be reserved until the Bills actually get their next head coach.
Beane will lead the GM search, so you'd expect there to be some synergy there.
But with how things have gone for Beane lately, it's not even a given that that's a good thing.
