Bills WR options: Odell Beckham Jr, Elijah Moore among best free-agent targets to help Josh Allen as injuries pile up image

The Buffalo Bills' weapons surrounding Josh Allen were already a concern entering the playoffs, but season-ending injuries to both Gabe Davis and Tyrrell Shavers leave the team's receiving corps especially thin entering the divisional round.

That Davis and Shavers were both playing notable parts in the offense was arguably a red flag for the Bills in itself. Davis didn't re-sign with the team until September and only made his season debut in mid-November after injury, while Shavers came into the season with one career catch over two seasons.

With both sidelined for the remainder of the playoffs, the Bills will have to rely even more heavily on their running backs and tight ends. Could another receiver from outside the organization join the mix, too?

Here's a look at the Bills' wide receiver depth chart and the top free-agent options available.

Bills WR depth chart

RankWR
1Khalil Shakir
2Brandin Cooks
3Keon Coleman
4Curtis Samuel*

*  Designated to return from IR

With Davis and Shavers placed on season-ending IR, the Bills currently have only three wide receivers on their active roster: Khalil Shakir, Brandin Cooks and Keon Coleman. Shakir was Buffalo's leading receiver this season, but Cooks was only signed late in the season and Coleman was a healthy scratch at times down the stretch.

Could reinforcements be on the way? Veteran Curtis Samuel was designated to return from IR, but he would have to be activated to rejoin the 53-man roster and be eligible to play in a game. Mecole Hardman is also on the practice squad, and the Bills signed Kristian Wilkerson to their practice squad after Davis and Shavers went down.

While Buffalo only has three healthy receivers at the moment, they also rely heavily on tight ends Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox. Between that duo, three receivers and their running back tandem of James Cook and Ray Davis with Ty Johnson hurt, the Bills are hoping they have enough to make a deep playoff run.

If they decide they don't, here are the options.

Best free agent WR options

Odell Beckham Jr.

Former Pro-Bowler Odell Beckham Jr. Has insisted his playing career isn't over, despite remaining unsigned this season and having only nine catches with the Miami Dolphins in 2024. It doesn't seem particularly likely he would get another chance in the middle of a playoff run, but with his legs as fresh as they can be despite his injury history, a player who averaged 16.1 yards per reception just two years ago isn't such an unappealing option.

Nelson Agholor

Nelson Agholor went unsigned into the 2025 season after a quiet second season with the Baltimore Ravens, but he has 10 games worth of playoff experience and won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles

Elijah Moore

Elijah Moore would be an ideal fit for the Bills after spending time in the offense earlier this season, only to be cut in late November. There is one caveat: Buffalo would have to wait to sign him off the Denver Broncos' practice squad until after the two teams play in the divisional round, thanks to NFL rules. If the Bills advance, they could bring back Moore after he had 112 yards on nine catches in Joe Brady's offense.

Robert Woods

Now nine years removed from his first stint with the Bills, Robert Woods was a reliable veteran target for a number of years with the Los Angeles Rams before spending the last three seasons in the AFC South between Tennessee and Houston. Woods was cut by the Steelers at the end of training camp, which might raise some red flags considering Pittsburgh's lack of wide receiver depth, but he has 12 years of experience under his belt and has appeared in 12 playoff games.

Tyler Boyd

A complementary piece of the Cincinnati Bengals' offense during their Super Bowl run four years ago, Tyler Boyd spent 2024 with the Tennessee Titans but went unsigned into 2025. He had a quiet season in 2024 with 390 yards on 39 catches, but he was more productive in a more efficient Cincinnati offense and would bring some big-game experience to the Bills if he's in game shape.
