The Buffalo Bills are bringing back a familiar face to help at a position of need.
On Tuesday, they announced the signing of Shaq Lawson, who at least initially will join the practice squad.
Lawson was originally a first-round pick of the Bills in the 2016 NFL Draft.
He spent his first four NFL seasons out of Clemson with Buffalo.
He then went to the Dolphins for 2020, the Jets for 2021, then came back to the Bills for two seasons.
Lawson's first NFL sack came with the Bills on Oct. 30, 2016 against Tom Brady and the Patriots.
His career-high sack season was 2019 with the Bills, when he had 6.5 sacks.
Lawson had 16.5 sacks across those first four seasons of Buffalo.
In his second stint with the Bills, he recorded sacks against Patrick Mahomes and Tua Tagovailoa.
Lawson is 6-foot-3 and 265 pounds and officially in his ninth NFL season.
He's now 31 years old, and he will wear No. 51 with the Bills.
Given that Buffalo's defensive line has been dinged up all year, getting an experienced guy up front like Lawson is not a bad thing at all.
