The Buffalo Bills promoted Joe Brady to head coach from offensive coordinator on Tuesday, meaning the team's focus now shifts towards filling out the rest of the coaching staff.
Brady will have to figure out both coordinator positions, and he has a decision to make on the defensive side of the ball with Bobby Babich.
Babich has served as Buffalo's defensive coordinator for two seasons, but Brady could look to go in a different direction, and ESPN's Adam Schefter pinpointed a Denver Broncos assistant as a premier defensive coordinator candidate for the Bills.
Schefter reported on Tuesday that Broncos defensive pass coordinator Jim Leonhard is expected to be a leading candidate in Buffalo's defensive coordinator search.
"Sources: Broncos defensive pass coordinator Jim Leonhard is expected to be a leading candidate to become the next defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills," Schefter wrote on X.
Leonhard has been receiving defensive coordinator interest due to the fantastic job he has done over the last two years in Denver, leading one of the top pass defense units.
The 43-year-old was in the running for the Green Bay Packers' vacant defensive coordinator gig before they hired Jonathan Gannon.
Leonhard would be a nice fit in Buffalo with Brady and could greatly help the Bills' inconsistent pass defense. The former interim head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers is bound to be a defensive coordinator someday, and Buffalo would be an ideal fit for both sides.
