Bills predicted to sign Pro Bowl wide receiver for Josh Allen in 2026 image

The Buffalo Bills shocked the NFL world by firing head coach Sean McDermott on Monday.

The coach was in charge for nine seasons and had an unprecedented amount of success with the Bills. However, the coach never made it to a Super Bowl, and it seems like that's what ended up doing him in.

No matter who the next head coach is, it's clear that the team needs to add more weapons around Josh Allen. Khalil Shakir was the leading receiver for the Bills in 2025 and he only had 719 yards and four touchdowns.

Allen needs a number one receiver, and there should be plenty of options this offseason. PFSN's Ryan Guthrie recently predicted landing spots for the top free agents, and pegged the Bills for wide receiver George Pickens.

Pickens was traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Dallas Cowboys ahead of the 2025 season and ended up having his best pro season. Pickens caught 93 passes for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns and earned his first Pro Bowl selection.

Regarding Pickens and the Bills, Guthrie offered the following:

The Bills’ window is now. After firing Sean McDermott, general manager Brandon Beane has no excuses left. Josh Allen needs a true alpha target, and Pickens is the best one available.

George Pickens is a nightmare underneath and one of the league’s premier contested-catch and vertical threats. He finished in the top three in the PFSN NFL WR Impact Metric and proved what he can do with competent quarterback play. This move screams urgency.

As Guthrie mentioned, Brandon Beane was kept at general manager, and he will undoubtedly feel the need to make a big move or two.

Pickens is probably the best receiver who will be available this offseason and the Bills should do whatever they can to land the target. Pickens proved he can be an elite, No. 1 option with good quarterback play, so he could put up even bigger numbers with Allen.

Spotrac projects Pickens to land a massive four-year deal worth over $30 million annually. The Bills aren't expected to have much cap space to work with, but they could create a cushion with some restructuring and cuts.

The Bills clearly want to take the next step, and it's going to be hard to do that with Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman as the top receiving options.
