The Buffalo Bills are making changes.

Sean McDermott has been fired. What about Brandon Beane, the general manager?

Turns out Beane is staying put.

ESPN's Adam Schefter posted on X that Beane will lead the search for the new head coach.

It was a big decision for owner Terry Pegula. Do you take the full axe out, or just go partway?

In the end, he chose to make McDermott the fall guy for a team that has been great for eight of McDermott's nine seasons in charge, yet never made it to a Super Bowl.

It's a choice made by Pegula and company to try and maximize Josh Allen's prime as the franchise QB.

Beane will have to get everything from here on out right.

There was some skepticism about Beane after his underwhelming approach to adding talent to help the Bills' roster this season while knowing there were some clear deficiencies.

The Bills could've used a wide receiver, a defensive tackle, a cornerback or a safety at the trade deadline. Beane made no deals.

There have been recent draft picks that haven't panned out as hoped, either, with 2024 second-round pick Keon Coleman at the top of that list.

And the offseason signings of Joshua Palmer and Elijah Moore? Those didn't work, either.

But Beane gets a break and sticks around. It'll be up to him to help be the architect of what Bills fans hope is the end to a never-ending Super Bowl drought.
