The Buffalo Bills' receiver room has taken a lot of heat this season, and even more so over the past three weeks as the unit has struggled.

Granted, injuries have played a role, so too has having Keon Coleman as a healthy scratch over discipline issues, and Josh Allen has suffered as a result. Just look at the Houston Texans game, folks; it was tough.

As such, Bills general manager Brandon Beane pulled the trigger on signing veteran free agent Brandin Cooks to the roster this week in an attempt to bring some leadership and, more importantly, another weapon for Allen.

And he's only been in Buffalo for a few days, but Cooks is already making his presence felt in a big way.

"Bringing a guy like him in and being a veteran presence for our room, he's come in here, he's already basically learned our playbook," Allen said. "He's an extremely high football IQ guy. He's been around the league for a long time. The way that he carries himself, the way that he's in meetings already, it's very apparent that he's a true professional.

"To come out here and practice the way that he did speaks a lot about who he is as a person as a player, we appreciate him coming here and hopefully helping us out."

Will Brandin Cooks play in Week 13?

Given that the veteran has only been with the team for a few days, I'd say it's unlikely, but given Allen's comments and how quickly he's learned the playbook, it wouldn't surprise me to see a few packages for Brandin.

We saw last year that Amari Cooper was signed, and played a few days later, so Buffalo has done it, and given the current state of the receiver room, there's certainly a spot available for Cooks if Joe Brady wants to put him into the game plan.

Being a veteran, nothing will surprise Cooks, and he will know what Allen likes and doesn't, so he will be undergoing a crash course to learn the offense. Sunday might come too quickly for Brandin to suit up, but if he does, Buffalo has a downfield threat who can still make the odd play here and there.

And right now, the Bills need all the help they can get.
