The Buffalo Bills just signed Jordan Poyer last week.

But on Wednesday, they placed him on waivers.

It's not exactly what it seems.

Instead, it's a bit of roster gymnastics.

Bills reporter Sal Capaccio explained it all in a long post on X:

"The Bills will be making a procedural/paper transaction move releasing Jordan Poyer from the practice squad. He’ll be re-signed back to the PS tomorrow. The reason is because they’ll be signing Gabe Davis to the practice squad and have to release a PS veteran to do so. Davis will then be placed on PS/injured, which will free the spot back up for Poyer to re-sign. So if/when you see the reports of Poyer being released (because it will appear on the waiver wire) just know it’s procedural for literally a few minutes. Then you’ll see him added back via a waiver wire transaction tomorrow."

The Bills have multiple reunions going on.

Davis didn't have a spot to sign into while still recovering from his injured meniscus, so he needed Poyer's spot temporarily before going on the practice squad's injured list.

Once Davis is officially under the injured designation, Poyer can come back.

Technically, a team could snipe the Bills and claim Poyer off waivers, but clearly they don't think that will happen.

Poyer, who spent seven years in Buffalo, found a chance to return to the Bills.

“This is where my heart is,” Poyer told reporters last Thursday. “It’s where home is, where I essentially grew up in this game. On and off the field. My daughter’s grown up in this town, this city. And I feel like this is a way for me to give back to the community, to this team. I feel like I can still give back to the game in many ways, whether that be on the field or off the field.”

Poyer spent seven years with the Buffalo Bills, from 2017 through 2023.

In that time, he suited up for 107 games, all starts.

Poyer recorded 22 interceptions with the Bills, at least two in every season except 2023.

He also made 682 tackles, including 35 for loss. He had 11 sacks, eight forced fumbles, six recovered fumbles and 48 passes defensed.

Poyer had played with the Eagles and Browns before Buffalo.

In 2024, he departed for the Dolphins, and he played in 16 games and had 98 tackles.

Now, Poyer is back to his NFL home base in Buffalo, at least once this procedural move goes through.
