Bills GM Brandon Beane teases major roster shake-up after Joe Brady hire image

The Buffalo Bills already shocked most of their fans when they fired head coach Sean McDermott less than 24 hours after a 33-30 overtime loss to the Denver Broncos in the divisional round of the playoffs.

But does Buffalo have even more tricks up its sleeve?

According to general manager Brandon Beane, fans shouldn’t be surprised if the Bills make a few “aggressive” roster moves during free agency and the lead-up to the 2026 NFL Draft in an effort to surround reigning MVP quarterback Josh Allen with more talent than he had in 2025.

“I’m not going to be afraid to make moves,” Beane told Josh Reed of WIVB. “Now, I do have to make sure that I don’t do something that we walk into a season and it’s Josh playing with guys who look like me and you. That would test his greatness. I think that would be irresponsible for me to do that. But I am always looking for ways, trying to be creative — whether it’s with the cap, contracts.

“We made some aggressive plays as the trade deadline to try and get something done, could not get those opportunities, couldn’t get those teams to truly engage with us. But yes, if there is an opportunity that I can make work with all that, I wouldn’t hesitate to be aggressive.”

To Beane’s point, he tried to trade for Miami Dolphins star receiver Jaylen Waddle and then-New York Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, according to Pro Football Talk.

The Dolphins reportedly were asking for at least a first-round pick in exchange for Waddle, and given the Bills are within their division, his asking price was likely much higher than that.

Wide receiver and defensive tackle are two of Buffalo’s biggest positions of need.

Both Gabriel Davis and Brandin Cooks are set to become free agents, and it’s believed Curtis Samuel will be a cap casualty (a pre-June 1 cut saves the team $6.05 million, and a post-June 1 cut saves $7.78 million, per Over the Cap).

The Bills were connected to several high-profile WRs at the trade deadline, including New Orleans’ Chris Olave and Jacksonville’s Brian Thomas Jr.

Defensive tackle will also need some upgrading, as Jordan Phillips, Larry Ogunjobi and DaQuan Jones are heading toward free agency, leaving Ed Oliver, Deone Walker and T.J. Sanders as the lone DTs with significant starting experience on the roster.
